Social Media FAQs
Answers to some of the questions we’re most frequently asked about social media promotion, competitions and influencer visits.
Content & Social Media Posts
What type of content performs best on your channels?
Content that gives our audiences a reason to stop, watch, read or engage tends to perform best. We’re always looking for interesting ways to showcase our members through fascinating facts, hidden stories, unique experiences, useful visitor information and inspiring ideas.
Short, engaging videos with a strong hook tend to perform particularly well, which is why much of our Instagram and Facebook content is video-based.
Why are your videos usually so short?
Our videos are typically 7–15 seconds long, as we’ve found this to be the optimal length for maximising views on our Instagram and Facebook channels.
Our videos are often designed around a strong hook or montage rather than trying to tell the full story visually. The aim is to capture attention and encourage people to read the caption, where we can share more about your business, experience or story.
Will my business be featured in montage-style posts or dedicated posts?
You’ll be featured in a mix of different content styles, depending on the story, experience or information we want to share.
This could include montage-style videos alongside other members, where several businesses or experiences are brought together around a particular theme or idea. These posts often use a strong hook to capture attention, with members then featured in the caption.
You may also be featured in dedicated posts focused specifically on your business, experience or story. Both formats are valuable ways to showcase our members and reach our audiences.
Do I need to create the social media content myself?
No. You don’t need to create a finished post for us.
In fact, one of the most useful things you can send us is simply the interesting information behind your business – whether that’s a quirky fact, historical story, useful visitor tip, hidden gem or unique experience.
We can then look at the best way to turn that information into content that works for our audience.
Why haven’t I been contacted before being featured in a post?
We’ll often create content in our usual style and include or tag members where it makes sense, without contacting every business about every individual post.
This allows us to react to trends, create timely content and include businesses naturally within wider destination guides, montage videos and hook-led posts.
Of course, if there is something specific you would like us to promote, you’re always welcome to get in touch.
Competitions & Collaborative Posts
How do I arrange a competition – will Shakespeare’s England contact me, or should I get in touch?
Both! We may contact you if we think your business, experience or event would make a great competition prize in one of our seasonal campaigns. However, you don’t need to wait to hear from us.
If you have something you’d like to give away, simply get in touch and let us know what you have in mind. We can then discuss whether a competition would be a good fit, the best format and whether there may be an opportunity to collaborate with another member or influencer.
What are the benefits of running a competition?
Competitions can be a great way to increase awareness of your business and introduce your experience to new audiences. They can also help to:
- Generate high levels of engagement
- Increase visibility for your business
- Reach new potential visitors
- Create excitement around an event, experience or launch
- Introduce your business to the audiences of other members or influencers through collaborative competitions
The value of a competition isn’t just about the number of entries – it can also put your business in front of a large and highly relevant audience.
How do Shakespeare’s England competitions work?
Once we’ve agreed on a suitable prize, we’ll create the competition post using our usual format and imagery.
Competitions are primarily shared on our Instagram channel and typically ask users to follow the relevant accounts and enter according to the instructions in the post.
We’ll manage the competition post and announce the winner, before connecting the winner with you so the prize can be arranged.
Which type of competition is most effective?
There isn’t one type of competition that works best in every situation, but we’ve found that collaborative competitions between multiple members, or competitions involving an influencer, can be particularly effective as they can reach a wider audience through multiple accounts.
If you know of another member you’d like to collaborate with, please reach out and we can help facilitate the competition.
For event-focused competitions, prizes also tend to receive more entries when they aren’t tied to just one specific date. If possible, offering multiple dates or some flexibility around when the prize can be redeemed can make the competition more appealing to a wider audience.
Can an influencer collaborate on my competition?
Potentially. Influencer competitions are less common and can be harder to arrange, but if we have a suitable influencer available, we may be able to ask them to collaborate on the competition post to help boost its visibility.
There is no additional cost involved, but this isn’t always possible or guaranteed, as it depends on the influencer and their availability.
How do general collaborative posts work?
We’ll occasionally send a collaboration request when we’ve created a post that we think would work particularly well for your business.
If you send us a collaboration request, we can’t always guarantee that we’ll be able to accept it, as we need to ensure the content fits our brand, appeals to our audience and works alongside our planned content.
However, please always tag us in your posts. Even if we’re unable to accept a collaboration, we may still be able to share suitable content to our Stories or repost it to our followers.
If there’s a particular post you’d love to collaborate on, please get in touch. We’re happy to work with you on the content and, where possible, schedule it into our content calendar.
Influencer Visits
How do I get involved in an influencer visit?
The best thing to do is let us know that you’re interested. Tell us:
- The type of influencer you’d like to work with
- What you could offer
- The type of audience you’d like to reach
- Any content you’d ideally like to receive
We can then keep your business in mind when planning future influencer visits or building an itinerary that could be a good fit.
What do I need to offer an influencer?
This depends entirely on your business and what you feel comfortable offering.
This could include an overnight stay, attraction entry, an experience, a meal or voucher.
Influencer visits often work best when we can combine several member experiences into a wider itinerary, so you don’t necessarily need to create an entire trip yourself.
For example, one member may provide accommodation while others provide activities, dining or experiences.
What content will I receive from an influencer?
This varies depending on the creator and what has been agreed in advance.
From our experience, gifted influencer visits will often include Stories during the visit, with accommodation frequently receiving a dedicated post and other experiences potentially being featured as part of a wider itinerary or destination-focused post.
Before confirming a visit, we can discuss content expectations and work with the influencer to agree what they are happy to provide.
Can I choose which influencer I’d like to work with?
Yes. You can look through our list of creators and see who you feel would be a good fit for your business. If there’s someone you’d particularly like to work with, we’d be happy to reach out to them on your behalf and see if we can arrange a visit.
What if there’s a creator I’d like to work with who isn’t on the list?
Please let us know. We’re happy to reach out to creators who aren’t currently on our list and explore whether a collaboration could be a good fit.
Can other members be involved in an influencer visit?
Absolutely. Where suitable, we’re happy to work with other members to create a collaborative itinerary around an influencer visit. For example, we could combine accommodation with attractions, restaurants or our Explorer Pass to create a more compelling weekend experience.
Are influencer visits guaranteed?
Unfortunately, no. Influencer opportunities depend on campaign suitability, influencer availability and your membership level. However, we’ll always do our best to find a good fit and create opportunities where possible.
