Ever wondered what would happen if you left your day entirely up to chance? No plans. No itinerary. Just a shortlist of places, a whole county to explore, and a coin. We let fate guide us, and Warwickshire did not disappoint.
First Flip: Stratford-upon-Avon or Warwick?
We narrowed it down to two towns we were eager to explore: Stratford-upon-Avon, with its Shakespearean charm, and Warwick, home to a castle steeped in centuries of history. The coin landed on Heads, so Stratford it was!
We began with a wander down the River Avon, soaking in the views of the picturesque town. Stratford’s narrow streets, lined with independent shops, made for a perfect morning stroll.
Flip Two: Something Historical or Something New?
Next, we flipped for a change of pace: Heads for history, Tails for something more modern. The coin came up Heads again—history, it was! We headed into Shakespeare’s Birthplace, a must-see for any visitor. The house, beautifully preserved with its Tudor charm, was filled with stories of the man who shaped the English language. We even sat in the room where he was born!
Flip Three: Sweet or Savoury?
A lunchtime decision: Heads for sweet, Tails for savoury. The coin landed on Tails, so we made our way to The One Elm, a cosy pub just a short walk from the centre. Known for its locally sourced menu, we tucked into a hearty bacon and brie burger paired with a crisp glass of wine—a proper hidden gem.
Flip Four: Call It or Keep Going?
With some afternoon left, we tossed the coin once more: Heads to head home, Tails to keep going. It landed on Tails, so off we went to Charlecote Park, just outside Stratford.
The parkland, dotted with deer and ancient trees, was a peaceful and scenic spot. We had a relaxed walk, admired the views, and grabbed a quick coffee from the café before it closed.
Final Flip: Head Home or Book a Bed?
Our final flip of the day: Heads to stay the night, Tails to head home. The coin came up Heads, and we found ourselves checking into Avonlea B&B—a charming spot in the heart of town. Cosy rooms, stylish touches, and a friendly host who gave us great local tips (which we’ll definitely follow up on next time!).
